Breeze on Haight Street
by Julie on Oct.23, 2009

It has occurred to me lately that I take photos along certain themes. For a long time I didn’t realize that I did that. Apparently, I have a thing for (and this is not comprehensive): clocks, hands, doorknobs, sun flares… and open windows. Perhaps it’s the voyeur in me: wondering what lies past that window, or just the feeling of effervescence I get in seeing a curtain floating in the breeze. This was the picture that got me started on my window kick.
Today, the intersection of Haight at Ashbury doesn’t live up to the hype or nostalgia of the Summer of Love and the San Francisco hippie scene. But when I see this photo, I imagine that this is what it must have felt like, for a little while.

I’ve heard that if you remember those days you weren’t there … they tell me I was there and I don’t remember much so I guess I was there….. the Haight was interesting in 1968……a lot of open windows then
