Stuart, have you made it to the Orinda bart station? There is some lovely public art there as well.

I fell asleep one time on BART and woke up at the Orinda station…that’s about as close as I’ve gotten. I’ll certainly check it out now, though! Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Travis. It was one of those days where I took 100 photos i was not all that excited about and at the end of the day, on the way home, the opportunity presented itself, making the entire day worthwhile.

Isn’t that always the way? (Or most of the time, anyway…) You shoot and shoot, and then something just happens to come along, and bam! Or, you go home thinking you haven’t gotten anything worthwhile, but then discover a gem that you didn’t realize you had.

I’ve learned to just shoot and forget what the little LCD screen shows. I never know what I have until its big on the screen. This isn’t to say that I just spray and pray…I am just pleasantly surprised by details sometimes.
I say keep shooting, you never know.

Nice job. I like how the mural reflects on the floor.

Thanks Zach.

Are we sure that’s MacArthur BART? That’s my station, and neither the mural nor the benches look familiar. (The floor is also unusually clean.) Is it possible I’ve been walking past this without seeing it for years?

It certainly is
The artist’s name is Mark Adams, so I’m told. On one side of the interior of the station is the above mural and on the other side of the station is a similar one with a different color layout:
They are both very large.

Damn. I’ve never noticed those. Guess I’ve been in too much of a hurry.

If it makes you feel better, I only noticed the pink and blue one. It was weeks later that i noticed the other one. Prior to noticing either of them, I walked through there MANY times oblivious. Let’s all take a moment to appreciate our surroundings!

I love the various ways the theme in the photo is reinforced with your composition. The woman feels to me like a human expression of the explosion of thoughts and emotions painted on the wall with her colorful skirt and headscarf and the curve of the bench continues that out to the viewer to take in… very nice!
