“There is one thing the photograph must contain, the humanity of the moment.” ~ Robert Frank

One of the things I appreciate most about the influence that photography has made on me, personally, is that it encapsulates big ideas in a frozen moment.

Here I see so many things besides the obvious: purpose, ambition, and perhaps mostly, the continuum of life. Photography has done for me what years of meditation practice couldn’t. It makes me aware of the world.

I’ve been coming back to this image for a couple of days … At first I did not care for the feel of it … Maybe It’s the blue/green glass or the hint of overexposure at the top right… but conceptually it is so well done- it won me over … the dark and light contrast … the obvious generational contrast .. the two figures facing opposite directions and both on wheels and on different levels … the color connection in the pants of both… the graphic element of the lines ……the thought that there is another layer that I am missing ?? maybe … A very strong image……. Caliber has become my first stop every morning…..

This was one of those “decisive moments” as Cartier-Bresson put it, where I knew if I hesisitated even another fraction of a second, the image would be gone. So I agree, it’s not a perfect photo and there are things I wish were improved, but overall I’m glad I woke up fast enough to see what was right there in front of me. Lots of times I’m not that quick on the draw… ;-)

I’m so glad we’re your first stop in the morning. That’s very high praise indeed!
