Word from the internet is that our friend GIRAFA has been arrested .
This is a sad day for Bay Area Graffiti. I have been photographing GIRAFA’s art for the past 3 years. It has become one of my personally favorite and publicly popular projects.
Two of his most creative pieces were parody’s of Toys ‘R’ Us and It’s-It. You can see 100’s more in a Flickr pool dedicated to the hunting of GIRAFA’s here.
FREE GIRAFA!!

Good one. Arrested? shit…
Hahah, that’s sucha sweet giraffe, he looks so awkward/confused. I’ll make sure to try and hunt some giraffe’s when I’m in SF
Say it ain’t so! =(
Yeah, nothing like going after low-hanging fruit to demonstrate the power of the man over the people. I feel a whole lot safer now.
i wonder if there’s anything we can do :/
If anyone else feels like those giraffes brighten their day when they see them, or just feels like protesting this, hit me up. freegirafa@gmail.com
Send me fliers, I’ll post them around SJSU. If anyone feels like going to the courthouse with signs and banners, I would be thrilled to join in.
im willing to help GIRAFA in anyway i can.
ive enjoyed finding, shooting, and posting his work over the past 3 years. this is a tremendous waste of taxpayer money, especially when the state is near bankruptcy.
im down hit me up on myspace…skaterboi45@gmail.com!!!
felony graffiti? that’s intense. i bet he was writing with a gun. those giraffes look suspiciously like they were scratched into the wall with bullets, don’t they?
it’s true, the world is safer with this man behind bars. i predict all of the bay area will be crime free today, and no bridges will fall.
todos somos giraffa!!!!
This is too bad to hear. I always looked forward to seeing his paintings around town. What a horrible waste of taxpayer monies.
Spotting a giraffa always makes me smile. It’s really a disgrace to use taxpayer resources this way. SF has some *real* problems that need to be dealt with.

This story makes my head spin. Like what Jeremy said, don’t we have anything else to worry about?!! I hope this post helps Girafa in some way… not to make light of the matter, this is an excellent photo of Girafa on that truck.

I love Steven Free aka. Girafa. First off the mystery of this underground artist has just been revealed and I’m left feeling like Santa was just exposed. Looking for this Art all around the Bay has been inspiring and now I’m so glad that I stole that carpool sign with it’s very own Girafe autograph on it.
FREE GIRAFA
Hooray! Another idiot whose art skills won’t earn him a dime has to stop trashing other people’s property.
It’s a thrill every time I see Girafa. This is terrible news.

Somebody write them, OK?
Hemlock Tavern in SF had a benefit for cartoon artist S. Clay Wilson a while back, perhaps a benefit could be put on there.
Sorry I can’t do the follow through, I got a full plate at the moment.
