Just wanted to add that I also made it to the Jim Goldberg talk at the S.F. Art Institute last night. More human suffering -- the human trafficing really got to me... Interesting how he got his subjects to write on their photos in some of his work. The guy, prior to the last six years with Magnum goes way back 30 years -- and he started right there at SFAI... (I can remember spooking around SFAI as a teenage visitor 48 years ago -- god, am I feeling old right now)

Sadly that's true. And it seems to be what a large element of what's covered in documentary photojournalism today. Not that that's necessarily bad, just the way it is.

I really like the Exposure Gallery and the photo talks hosted every first Thursday. Though the gallery is small, the focus on documentary is first-rate with amazing photographers and presentations.

Actually, I think the smallness of the gallery creates an intimate atmosphere between presenter and audience that's lost in other photo-talk venues held in large auditoriums.

Just an FYI, Exposure Gallery was started by Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Kim Komenich and documentary photographer Rick Rocamora - two incredible photographers and nice people in general. I took a journalism class from Kim almost a year ago and learned a lot...

Hey Brad -- I just got back from Eros Hoagland's show and slide-show talk and I barely know what to say except that it made a deep impact on me. I sort of already knew this, but there is an unbelievable amount of violence in this world...

I'm still trying to figure that out Donald. I shot it through a hotel window which had a black granite reflective sill - and with my lens not against the glass, but at an angle. It's gotta be a reflection onto the window glass...

Spectacular shot! Tell me those aren't building shadows on the undersides of the clouds, because that's what I'm seeing!!!
And hope you get through the flu o.k. -- I know someone who had an seemingly near-death bout with it...

Oh, I'm just crushed that I'm going to be out of town and miss Jim Goldberg. I am such a fan of his work! I hope someone else will go and give me a report. ;-)
