X-ING

Stillness. That’s a very scarce luxury in Manhattan. There were several aspects that attracted me to the very early morning setting for the photo above, taken through my hotel window. First, the area was incredibly quiet, a rarity for 6th Avenue, a major five lane one-way artery just a couple of blocks from Times Square. Yet the striping and lane markings suggest a very different environment will transform just an hour or so later. And then there was the subtle morning light, a rarity. That’s what’s great about photography – being able to hold a fleeting moment in time that many will never see.

The extreme angle, “linearness” and contrasty black and white work so well here. Such a great shot.
