LOS ANGELES – Don Lee Farms announced on April 24 that it has sold over a million organic, plant-based burgers in less than 60 days.
The plant-based burger is the first made with organic ingredients, according to the company. It is made from beans and seeds, contains beet juice, and is certified organic, vegan, GMO-free, and gluten-free. Don Lee Farms said it was the only burger in its class to qualify for the USDA Certified Organic Label.
“Interest in our organic plant-based burger has just exploded,” said Donald Goodman, president of Don Lee Farms. “We are only responding to demand and are implementing plans to expand distribution every week. The excitement around this burger was overwhelming. We are now expanding availability in club stores and will be introducing the burger to restaurants and other retail markets in the coming months. “
Don Lee Farms produces meat, vegetarian and plant-based foods for customers in retail, club, foodservice and school foodservice customers. Consumer products are sold at Costco, Whole Foods Markets and Walmart under the Don Lee Farms label, private labels and under the brands of their partners.
“The fact that our organic plant-based burger is made with plants and not science has resonated with people. No one wants to eat a burger hidden away with artificial or modified ingredients if they have a choice, ”said Danny Goodman, product development spokesperson at Don Lee Farms. “They want naturalness. They want organic. They want the real thing.
