Queso Burger Recipe | POPSUGAR Food

I’m Texan, and as any Texan will attest, you don’t really live unless you eat barbecue, Shipley Do-Nuts, and chili con queso frequently. My chest and donut hole days have slowed down, but queso. . . put me in front of a bowl, and I turn into Winnie the Pooh near a jar of honey. That’s why this grilling season, I had to find other ways to incorporate the dip – the first being a burger.

I tried to do it Juicy Lucy style. . . unfortunately the Velveeta cheese just seeped into the burger meat rather than melting wonderfully in the center. So don’t do that! Instead, just spoon a heaping scoop of queso onto your bun before laying the burger on top. As for the other toppings, the tomato and lettuce slices are good – but I gave my burger a spin with red cabbage and jalapeño slices. You do you.

This recipe only makes one burger, but it can easily be recreated for a crowd. Plan to purchase 1/2 pound of ground beef for each guest.

Queso Burger Recipe

  1. burger
    1/2 pound ground beef
    Kosher salt
    Hamburger bun, buttered inside
  1. Toppings:
    queso dip
    Jalapeño slices
Shredded red cabbage, seasoned with fresh lime juice and salt

  1. Preheat your grill, broiler pan, or panini press. Take a look at your burger bun and form the ground beef into a burger patty slightly larger than the bun (the meat shrinks as it cooks). Generously salt the pancake.
  2. Once the grill is hot, grill the hamburger patty 4 minutes (for medium-rare) and up to 5-6 minutes (medium-well). Once the juices have collected on top of the patty, flip it over and cook for another 4-5 minutes. Meanwhile, toast the buttered buns face down on the grill for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Place the open bread on a plate. On the bottom half, drop a few tablespoons of queso, followed by the slices of burger, cabbage, and jalapeño.
